Judge Scott Walker graduated with honors from Dallas Baptist University. Judge Walker received his Juris Doctorate from Baylor School of Law. Judge Walker is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Bar College, an honorary society of lawyers who are among the best trained in Texas.
Prior to serving on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the State’s highest criminal court, Judge Scott Walker’s law practice consisted of civil defense, veteran’s disability, criminal litigation, and appellate advocacy. Judge Walker had written over one hundred appellate briefs and sat as first chair in more than forty trials in district courts across North Texas. He had a high degree of success in both litigation and appellate advocacy.
Judge Scott Walker is a lifelong Texan. Ironically, he and his wife, who was also his high school sweetheart, realized while dating years ago that they both had been born in the town of Borger, Texas where their families lived just doors apart but had never met. Later, their families moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and both families ended up living in the same small suburban town, where Scott and his future wife grew up and met while attending school. They have been married 47 years now and have two grown children and two grandchildren.
Upon college graduation, their daughter briefly considered following in her father’s footsteps by attending law school and was offered a full scholarship. However, upon realizing that her true passion was in teaching, she turned down the scholarship and went on to earn a Master Degree in Education and continues to teach high school English and Education courses today. While her life centers around her family, God has given her an incredible love for the teenagers she teaches and a passion for motivating them to learn. She spends a lot of her time voluntarily working with students in extracurricular activities and is truly changing the world one student at a time.
The couple’s son, Justice Brian Walker, who serves on the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth, did follow in his father’s footsteps and attended The University of Houston Law School. While Brian is devoted to his position as Justice on the Second Court of Appeals, he also has a passion for politics. While attending college at Texas State University, Brian met then Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock on the steps of the State Capitol. After becoming acquainted, Lieutenant Governor Bullock arranged for Brian to work as a Senate Messenger. Brian later became an Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms for the State Senate and also served on the first Bush/Cheney Presidential Campaign. At the age of 30, Brian ran for a Texas House seat against a four-term incumbent Democrat, raised over $400,000 and lost by only 120 votes. In 2020, Brian ran for his position on the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth and won the election by 64 percent of the vote.
Judge Scott Walker and his wife both descend from a long line of conservatives, and both have been conservative Republicans all their adult lives. Scott and his wife are evangelical Christians and are active members in their Dallas area church.
